WellBeing is pleased to announce its promotional partnership with the Wellness Business Owners World Summit.

“WellBeing magazine has grown considerably in the last five years, as more and more consumers take up wellness practices,” said Publisher Janice Williams. “We would like to see all wellness businesses realise this growth and we see events like the Wellness Business Owners World Summit as a way to explore new potentials together.”

“We think Australian wellness businesses will enjoy the ideas presented at the Wellness Business Owners World Summit on how present services form customer relationships, reach new markets and grow. It’s time for some new thinking,” added Williams.

About the Wellness Business Owners World Summit

The summit is a way to learn business strategies from the wellness industry’s best international business minds. It is represented in Australia by entrepreneur and WellBeing contributor Eloise King.

The summit is presented TED-style online and guests can sign up for free taster sessions. There are two main parts to the event: the pre-summit taster event, which is currently occurring live, and the summit itself, which consists of 24 top speakers from June 14 to 28.

Speakers include:

Wellness Billionaire Chip Wilson (Lululemon founder, estimated worth $2.9 billion)

Dr Joe Dispenza (neuroscientist featured in the films What the Bleep and People Vs State of Illusion)

Michael Gerber (author of the NY Times best-seller The E-Myth)

Loral Langemeier (The Secret, Dr Phil show money and business expert, author of Yes! Energy)

Michael Port (author of Book Yourself Solid and NY Times best-seller The Think Big Manifesto)

Dave VanHoose (CEO of Speaking Empire)

Dr Ivan Misner (BNI founder and NY Times best-selling author)

About WellBeing

A refreshingly thought-provoking reading experience, WellBeing offers inspiration for a way of life that is authentic and soulful.
Mick Matheson will be taking on the Editorship of Road Rider from February 2013.

Mick Matheson is known to most people in the motorcycle industry as an Editor and Journalist having begun his career as a cadet on Two Wheels almost 25 years ago.

“Joining Road Rider feels like I’m coming home to the sort of riding I thrived on when I first started riding, and it’s still the kind of motorcycling I enjoy most,” Mick says. “Road Rider will be a great journey and I’m excited about where it is going.”

“Aside from being a true publishing professional, Mick has a great feel for the market that we write for with Road Rider,” said Publisher Janice Williams. “Mick comes highly recommended from everyone within the motorcycle industry and is certainly known to readers. With Mick at the helm we aim to get back to the core audience and simply give them a more stunning product than they have ever seen before.”

About Road Rider

Road Rider was launched 13 years ago as a quarterly at a time when the 35+ motorcyclist was considered a niche concern. With the backing of good Direct Mail and Circulation operations at Universal Magazines, the publication has grown to become a monthly and is firmly entrenched as part of the motorcycling world. The 35+ motorcyclist is now considered the driving force of much of the spending in the motorcycle and accessory market.

The Road Rider Media Group now includes Road Rider as monthly, Cruiser & Trike bi-monthly and the Road Rider Bike Guide. The company has been commissioning a series of books and bookazines, which will commence publishing in 2013 under the Road Rider Publishing Co. imprint.

About Universal Magazines

Universal Magazines is Australia’s largest motorbike publisher with key brands such as Road Rider, Dirt Action, Cruiser & Trike, Trail Rider, Crusty magazine, plus the titles recently acquired from the Rapid Bikes Group. The company specialises in helping marketers find targeted audiences via print and online media. Universals 40 magazine titles include leaders in Home, Craft, Motorbike, and some Lifestyle categories, plus 12 niche web portals.
Universal Magazines is pleased to announce that it will be continuing its sponsorship of the various pool industry associations throughout 2013.

“As a supplier of marketing services to the pool industry we are pleased to be able to help the various industry bodies representing pool businesses increase the professionalism of members and lobby with clout,” said Publisher Janice Williams. “Ultimately it is for the pool industry to decide how it structures itself in doing this, but if where there is drive and enthusiasm for promoting the interests of pool businesses we want to be there,” said Ms Williams.

“We are keen to see growth for pool businesses in 2013, and are continuing our work to ensure this happens” said Publishing Manager Emil Montibeler. “It is not unreasonable to expect growth with predictions of successive long hot summers. Furthermore, the cost of a consumer improving their own home with a pool or landscape is far less compared to the cost of moving, so the economics of home improvement are in our favour.”

Universal Magazines publishes the category-leading pool magazines Poolside and Poolside Showcase, Industry magazine Pool & Spa Review, plus the popular online consumer online portal Completehome.com.au. The company supports SPASA Australia, SPASA NSW, SPASA VIC, SPASA WA, SPASA SA, SPASA QLD and has played a role in fostering relations between the pool industry and the landscape industries in each region.

Mick has a long history in motorcycle journalism, having worked as an editor, journalist and photographer for more than 20 years on a variety of titles. Mick has also worked for the Rapid Bikes Group in recent years, and has recently done a number of special projects for Universal Magazines.

Mick says, “My licence and I are over riding everywhere at 10/10ths and the relaxed pace of Cruiser, Classic & Trike will allow me to stop and look at the view rather than roaring past it. Having owned and ridden cruisers since Bob Hawke was Prime Minister, I’m excited to be taking over as Editor of Cruiser, Classic & Trike. We live in exciting times and this is gonna be a fun ride!”

“When it comes to cruisers, Mick is one of the most passionate people around,” says Publisher Janice Williams. “The cruiser market is performing relatively well and we have development plans for the magazine, so we are pleased to have an enthusiast on board. The cruiser community is its own tribe and we are pleased to have a card-carrying member at the helm.”

About Cruiser, Classic & Trike

J Peter Thoeming who recently retired from the group.

“With the backing of good Circulation, and good Direct Marketing Cruiser, Classic & Trike has become its own force in the market,” says Publisher Janice Williams.

Josh Hook wins 2012 RK Chains Samurai Award presented by Rapid Bikes Magazine.

Team Honda Racing factory rider Josh Hook has won the 2012 RK Chains Samurai Award for “Most Improved” and “Outstanding Effort” after a panel of 20 racing industry heads put together by Rapid Bikes voted in a silent ballot. This year there was no short list of riders, the industry personnel were asked to provide three names in order of preference, and Josh Hook won convincingly.

Josh started riding when he was a toddler and grew up on a farm in Taree on the NSW north coast. First competing in 2007, Josh became a successful junior dirt track competitor before the transition to junior road racing in 2008. In 2009, Josh competed in the Red Bull Rookies cup overseas before returning to Australia to win the 2011 Australian 125 GP Championship, securing a factory ride with Honda in ASBK Supersport for 2012. In his first year on the 600 Josh finished an incredible second place in the championship, also finishing third in the Asia Dream Cup series. For 2013, Josh steps up to a superbike riding for Team Honda Racing and is already showing speed in testing.

Josh says, “I would like to thank Link International and Rapid Bikes for presenting me with the RK Chains Samurai Award. Being added to the list of names that has won the award in the past is an honour and gives me great motivation for 2013. Thanks to my family and sponsors over the years and to Team Honda Racing”.

Jeff Ware, editor of Rapid Bikes magazine, says, “When a rider of Josh’s talent comes through the ranks as quickly as he has you can guarantee that rider will eventually make it to the top. Josh’s commitment and maturity as a rider has kept his results coming and after seeing him on the superbike at Phillip Island recently he should put on a good show for fans in 2012. The RK Chains Samurai Award list of recipients is a ‘Who’s who?’ of road racing in Australia and Josh Hook deserves his spot on that list.

“A special thanks must got to Link International for continued support of up and coming young riders in Australia, with both a high commitment of sponsorship and with this prestigious annual trophy”.

Current publisher Janice Williams added, “With the backing of good circulation and good direct marketing, we have built the magazine into a publishing empire that encompasses the monthly Australian Road Rider, the bimonthly Road Rider Cruiser, Classic & Trike, the annual Bike Guide, roadrider.com.au and numerous special editions now grouped together under the Road Rider Publishing Company imprint.”

Universal Magazines Gives Away 1 Million Magazines

Universal Magazines is using Magazine Week to announce that it is giving away 1,000,000 digital magazine editions in a clever promotion designed to identify and attract new customers to its brands.

The company is marketing a number of online destinations from which consumers can apply to download single, free digital issues. Sites such as ourfreegifttoyou.com.au and freehomemagazine.com.au are used to capture new customers who are then processed through a sequence of communications, which further engage them with the brands they have selected. “This campaign is now on a very significant scale and is bringing new customers in to our brand communities,” said Emma Perera, Associate Publisher.

Digital Pathway to Print?

“Early trials showed that digital can be used to promote brands and then lead the customer to subsequent purchase of editions via direct mail or retail,” commented Ms. Perera “When we present offers to digitally-acquired customers they are just as likely to order print, as they are digital, if they like the product. We have run digital promotions that have given us a sales spike at retail – it’s just a question of uncovering the customer and making them aware of your product, or rewarding their retail purchase with digital incentives,” said Ms. Perera.

“It would seem that since digital, we are winning new customers and that more material is being read — just not exclusively in the digital environment,” said Ms. Perera

Niche Magazines are the Winner

“The smorgasbord of magazine offerings available to us has made us picky,” said Ms. Perera. “We can indulge our interests and we can demand the world’s best because it is right there on our screens. This is the perfect situation for publishers of niche or targeted magazine products. Niche magazines tend to retain their fans for a longer life-cycle once they win them. Once a customer becomes a fan, they want to know about what you do — special editions, diaries and merchandise are all part of the desired brand experience.”

UNDER 35′S QUILT THEIR WAY THROUGH THEIR GARDEN

The Quilters’ Guild of NSW Inc., Brother International (Aust) Pty Ltd and Quilters Companion magazine joined forces to hold the ground-breaking 2012 Under 35s Quilt Competition to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Guild.

The theme of the competition was “How Does Your Garden Grow?” and guided entrants to interpret the theme literally, either by traditional or contemporary concepts. Youth from around Australia ranging from five to 35 years of age created beautifully crafted quilts, which depict hours of labour and dedication. With over 70 entries and strong competition it gave our judges — Deborah Laurie (on behalf of Maree Gebhardt who is president of the Guild), Brenda McCullough (marketing manager at Brother), and Clare Mooney (Editor of Quilters Companion) — a tough day at the office. There where four categories consisting of Primary School, Secondary School, 18-24 years old, and 25-35 years old. The primary school category provided the most entries with a grand total of 34. All judges were impressed with the amount of entries received and the quality of work, even from those who had never quilted before.

Once the judges made their decisions, the quilts made their way to Newington College for the “How Does Your Garden Grow?” Show. The quilts will be on display from Friday, 21st September to Sunday, 23rd September from 10am–4pm daily — entry is free. Winners for each category will be announced at the awards ceremony that will be held on Saturday, 22nd September, 2012 at 11am. Bring your family and friends to view the quilts on display and see how the youth of today have interpreted their garden through quilting. Quilting is a dedicated craft that results in something tangible that you can keep and treasure forever, and it has been wonderful to see so many of our Under 35s put in such a tremendous effort.

Brother proudly sponsored the competition by giving away 30 sewing machines valued at more than $18,000. Prizes also include Quilters Companion Quilters Packs valued at $2,400, plus 12 copies of Kathy Doughty’s latest book Making Quilts…The Promise of Joy valued at $720 from Material Obsession. Newington College also sponsored the competition by providing a location for the quilts to be displayed.

For further information about this competition or for professional photos of the quilts, please contact Cheryl Fernandes, marketing coordinator for Quilters Companion magazine, on (02) 9887 0346.

National radio exposure for the nation’s highest-selling pet care magazine.

PETS magazine launched a two month on air presence yesterday afternoon in conjunction with the Fifi and Jules drive time radio show, broadcast Australia-wide through the Southern Cross network (2Day FM, Sea FM and more).

After asking host Jules if he’d ever been on the cover of a magazine before, Fifi Box proceeded to surprise her co-host and star of television’s Getaway, Jules Lund, with “something he has always wanted” – to be on the cover of PETS magazine with his beloved cat, Harry.

According to the show’s Facebook page, which currently garners over 143,000 fans, Lund was “overwhelmed” by the news, making comments on air about his excitement to be involved with PETS magazine. Co-host Box also referenced several times that we are indeed the number one pet care title in Australia, one of the reasons we were chosen for this exciting promotion.

The fun doesn’t stop there! After asking listeners for suggestions of cover themes and props on air and online yesterday, the Fifi and Jules show will be interviewing PETS Editor Lauren McKellar on-air today, with further magazine giveaways, signings and chats scheduled for the magazine’s November release.

Make sure you’re a part of the magazine getting Australia-wide radio coverage. PETS #26 is on sale in November with Jules Lund (and Harry!) on the cover. Bookings close September 5, so get in quick for this not to be missed opportunity.

It has been a good month at WellBeing magazine. Not only has Roy Morgan noted a 6.2% increase in readership, but the publication is now extending to an additional 170 outlets via the Target Group.

Circulations Manager, Mark Darton, who looks after the retail sales for WellBeing, noted that, “Variety retailers such as Target are now more focused on the Health & Beauty categories within their stores and WellBeing Magazine provides the perfect source for customers of information and advice to complement this category. We expect more chain retailers to come on board in the near future.”

Over the past five years, WellBeing magazine’s market reach has gone from strength to strength and market distribution is now at more than 3,800 outlets. The positive response from the Target Group to distribute WellBeing magazines into an additional 170 Target retail stores further demonstrates the value of the WellBeing brand.

Universal Magazines’ Associate Publisher, Janice Williams, comments, “When you add the fact that we have digital editions, a busy website, plus eNews services and social media communities, WellBeing is very much the voice for natural products and services in the market today.”

Furthermore, the WellBeing brand has spawned a media empire from this success, publishing a book imprint titled The WellBeing Life Guides. This series of bookazines will inspire with guidance and enlightenment in areas such as Love, Fitness, Health Guide, Astrology, Detox and Anti- Ageing.

Embargo Date: Monday 30th April 2012

Launch Date: Wednesday 2nd May 2012

Grand Designs Australia Magazine Launched

Universal Magazines has launched Grand Designs Australia Magazine.

Following on from the highly successful TV series Grand Designs Australia Magazine is designed to function as a sourcebook and inspiration for people with home projects. Edited by TV show Presenter Peter Maddison and Kate St James, Grand Designs Australia Magazine is shaping up to be one of the most exciting launches of 2012.

The launch could not have better timing, with Series #2 of the Grand Designs Australia TV hitting the No. 1 spot for Subscription TV last week, and Grand Designs being listed by Roy Morgan as one ofAustralia’s most loved TV shows this week.

“Grand Designs Australia is a great brand to work on because it has become the friendly face of design in Australia,” said Publisher Janice Williams. “For home marketers design is often the distinguishing factor between products that perform and products that don’t, so everyone is interested in a design brand that reaches people with projects. The audience itself of course is highly sought after, so the publication is winning business from a range of clients from the lifestyle categories as well.” The magazine launches with over 70 pages of advertising and a further 250 pages in the pipeline.

What’s special about Grand Designs Australia Magazine?

“Building and renovating are often life-changing pursuits,” says Editor-At-Large Peter Maddison “and Grand Designs Australia Magazine is here to help”.

The publication makes a good case for good design. “It’s not about what you spend, as smart design can save you money, and give you a high-value property that you’d love to live in,” says Managing Editor Kate St James. The publication features many homes that have not yet been featured on TV, and presents the whole picture from floor-plans, to the people who built it, plus all the products and gadgets that made each home what it is.

Grand Designs Australia Magazine demystifies the use of design experts by making the case for collaborative effort and involving them editorially with real-life design questions. “Having the voices of design professionals in the magazine is important because we are publishing at a time that consumers with home aspirations find themselves time-poor and making to DIFM (Do-It-For-Me home creation),” said Ms Williams.

Grand Designs Australia Magazine is published by Universal Magazines Pty Ltd under a license agreement with Fremantle Media. Fremantle Media is the producer of the Grand Designs Australia TV which appears on the lifestyle Channel.

The publication goes on sale in Newsagents, Supermarkets and Online from Wednesday May 2nd and is being backed by an extensive point-of-sale campaign, direct-marketing program, online marketing and advertising with the LifeStyle group. Grand Designs Australia magazine will be published quarterly and is $8.95.

Did you know that Universal Magazines publishes more than 35 homemaker titles covering everything from building a home, kitchen or bathroom to the creation of an idyllic outdoor area or pool? No other publishing house offers such a diverse array of targeted home titles in a quality, trusted package.

As various external media studies tell us, magazine print campaigns teamed with an online campaign lift brand recall, creating a knock-on effect. Print media quickly activates an audience and drives the consumer to our website and your website, in turn delivering a defined target group. In fact, on average, 34.6 per cent of observers of an advertisement in a magazine with interest in the product will visit the website of the supplier the product.*

To enhance our array of targeted homemaker titles, we are very excited to announce that in May we will be launching the NEW-LOOK www.completehome.com.au site. In excess of $280,000 has been spent on the creation of the www.completehome.com.au site — from research and focus groups to software and production.

In production for more than 18 months, www.completehome.com.au represents a media first in terms of its offering and is the over-arching home brand to complement our homemaker titles.

In short, Universal Magazines really does represent your complete home solution.

This clearly demonstrates that men no longer have the desire to go to a newsstand and purchase a magazine adorned with boobs and bums. Men are far more likely to purchase magazines about what they feel excited and passionate about in their free time. As a leading publisher in the arena of dirtbike and roadbike action, Universal Magazines has a close reader relationship — our editors talk to their readers at shows and via readers’ letters and social media. Their relationship and the connection with our magazines are phenomenal. The editorial is trusted and advertising is seen as positive reference guide when it comes to lifestyle and big-ticket item purchases. The other great thing about our bike magazines is that our editors are keen to work with our advertising partners to come up with big ideas that benefit the reader as well as help generate a return on investment for your business.

If you would like to know more about our bike group of magazines and how you can connect with our readers, you can call Gary Holmes on 02 9887 0355.

The ABS survey discovered that among the 4.7 million Australians engaged in some form of cultural activity, 2.7 million were women and a massive 1.4 million of those regularly participated in craft activities.

Craft was most popular among women within the 35–54 age group, breaking down the stereotype that only grannies and pensioners enjoy craft activities such as knitting, quilting, paper crafts.

However, Universal Magazines was not surprised by the ABS findings; it reinforces our long-held belief that crafts are in vogue and a loved recreational activity of a diverse range of women.

“Whether it’s beading, quilting, scrapbooking or knitting, craft is no longer the pursuit of the blue rinse brigade,” says our Associate Publisher, Karen Day. “Craft is the passion of a new generation of women who, between juggling work and family commitments, unwind by putting their creativity to good use and produce something both artistic and practical.”

As Australia’s fourth-largest publisher and the proud creator of The Craft Portfolio, our collection of magazines is dedicated solely to crafts. Our craft titles deliver on-trend projects in a quality environment, with a readership base of mainly women in the 30–55 age group.

“Generally, our readers are busy working women with families; they are pretty time-poor and see their crafty pursuits as a way to express their creativity and unwind from the pressures of their busy lives,” says Karen.

“The only exception to this is Australian Beading, which skews slightly younger due to the popularity of young fashion icons such as Lady Gaga and Nicole Richie who have a beading passion. You will see young girls beading as they copy their style.”

The ABS study also found that 42 per cent of women involved in a cultural activity, be it craft or otherwise, do so merely for enjoyment, with less than 10 per cent receiving some form of remuneration for their activity of choice. This indicates that craft is a passion often indulged.

“Most people seek a creative release from their day-to-day life, so it’s little wonder that craft is seeing such resurgence among Australian women,” says Karen.

Get happy

As I was waiting for my morning caffeine fix recently, a Sydney Morning Herald headline caught my eye: The Meaning of Happiness by Ross Gittins. Why is Ross Gittins talking about happiness? After all, he’s an economist and all we hear is doom and gloom for the economy, right? I was intrigued and had to find out more.

I discovered that Ross was talking about a relatively new arena of psychology called “positive psychology”. It’s been around for about a decade and was pioneered by Professor Martin Seligman from the University of Pennsylvania. In essence, positive psychology encourages people to be happy or get to a “glass is half full” way of looking at the world. But, of course, the article then went on to tell me that people now think this a load of old baloney and there’s a happy backlash.

A range of philosophical debates stated why being happy is just plain silly, but what it boiled down to is that sometimes you need to be miserable to balance things out. This left poor Professor Seligman with a dilemma: how do you define being happy?

He answers in a new book called Flourish, which talks about being in a state of wellbeing.

Wellbeing is made up of five components:

A pleasant, positive life.

Living an engaged life.

A meaningful life.

A sense of accomplishment.

Having positive relationships.

Reading this made me pause. I put my caffeine fix to one side and thought this whole concept through. Hang on — WellBeing magazine has been helping Australians do this for 29 years!

If you would like to spend some time “getting happy” with WellBeing, click on the link below for a free digital edition or subscribe to six issues for a mere $48 — That’s a saving of $25.

From the Editor Terry Robson

Get ready to be inspired! Here, we have gathered together articles on the lives and teachings of 18 people who warrant the title “spiritual master”. This is not about promoting allegiance to the people. The aim here is to give context to their teachings and to allow you to connect with them as partners in the experience of life.

While the life stories of these masters are instructive and engaging, it is the teachings that are the thing. Buddha is said to have offered “Four Reliances” for pursuing the spiritual path and one of those was to rely on the message of the teacher, not her or his personality. No one is saying anyone listed here is perfect but they are all teachers who have brought new and profound understanding to aspects of the human condition in one way or another.

You are about to engage with the lives and teaching of some amazing people. Witness their example and immerse yourself in their wisdom. You will be encouraged, challenged and inspired. Enjoy.

This edition covers 19 Spiritual Masters.

Whether you’ve got a inner-city backyard or a couple of hectares in idyllic countryside, you’ll find ideas inside to help you grow some or all of the fruit, vegetables and herbs for your table.

The multiplying community gardens that are springing up today have a lot to do with a grassroots interest in the environment. One of the most important things we can do to help the environment is choose what food we eat, the way it’s grown and where it’s grown.

The 29 chapters inside include: Soil, Backyard biodiversity, Pests, Weeds, Growing Vegatables, Lathouris garden, Growing citrus, Urban orchard, community gardens, Planting by the moon, Water, Medicinal and culinary herbs, Hydroponics, Small space gardening, Healing gardens, and Preserves.

Overview:

Today many consumers equate green, organic and natural products with extreme cost. Consequently, our homes are chocked with synthetic fabrics, flooring and furnishings that leach toxins into the air. When we tire of these products, we consign them to landfill for an updated, equally poisonous version.

Everyday when cleaning kitchens and bathrooms we squirt some of the most dangerous liquids and we liberally tip chemicals into our pools simply because we lack the initiative to explore other options.

Wellbeing Natural Home introduces you to some alternatives to conventional living. From your choice of flooring and paint to the amount of water you use and the energy you consume, we hope this book inspires you to make changes that will have a direct impact on the health and happiness of your family and future generations.

About Wellbeing Magazine

We have covered an enormous amount of ground in this issue, with 21 chapters covering pyramids to ghosts, palmistry, reincarnation, aliens, sacred dance, ancient prophecies and more.

Some of the ideas reported on will stretch your credulity and, on occasion, the odd myth bubble has been pricked. Overall, though, the information presented here is intended to help you open your mind to new ideas.

There is a wealth of material here that will challenge your preconceptions. Could people on opposite sides of the planet directly affect each other? What exactly have the Mayans predicted will happen on December 21, 2012, and what did they base it on? What are the dervishes doing when they whirl? What are the energy fields that give shape to reality? Is geometry the sacred language of the universe?

Let these questions and the ideas and theories that surround them wash over you. Don’t believe everything you read here, but equally don’t be afraid to let it stimulate you, stir the brackish backwaters of your mind and take you to unexpected places.

About Wellbeing Magazine

WellBeing has remained Australia’s most successful natural health magazine for over 20 years and continues to grow as topics such as sustainability, organic produce and natural therapies become more mainstream. WellBeing is an inspiring read for people passionate about natural health and therapies and for those who have just begun to take an interest in the subject.
When investigating the topic of Love it quickly becomes apparent that one is really investigating life itself. We spend most of our lives searching for love in one way or another; whether it be the passion of romantic love or the sublime fulfilment of discovering your God’s love.

While compiling this book I found myself on a journey of self-discovery because love is so ubiquitous that every story related to me. On some occasions I felt uplifted and inspired and on others I realised how far I have to go in so many areas and how un-loving I can be.

I am sure that your experience will be the same but I urge you to undertake the journey. There will be things that challenge you in this publication but there are always steps shown to take you forward and you will be the better for it.

Wellbeing Love contains 21 chapters including:

Romantic Love, The Game of Love, Soul Mates, Sex and Love, Love Potions, Parental Love, Astrology – ideal and challenging love matches, Saving Relationships, Self Love, Feng Shui for Lovers, Friendship, Altruism, Agape – the Love of God

Are you fit? What does that question really mean to you? After all, we all seek fitness as a desirable goal but what are we really saying? I put it to you that being “fit” is being ready to live.

Being physically fit means you are able to choose what you want to do in life rather than settle for what an unfit body will let you do. “Fitness” also extends beyond the physical as walking, swimming, martial arts, yoga and other activities become moving meditations where you integrate mind and body for the refreshment of the soul.

That’s why fitness is really not a choice, not if you want to fully experience your life and get the most from it. How you get fit is up to you. From walking to weightlifting to yoga and ancient exercises such as the five Tibetans, it’s all covered here. Treat this as your guide and companion on your fitness journey.

The 23 chapters inside include:

Walking, Swimming, Gym, Cycling, Running, Resistance Exercise, Aerobic Exercise, Boot Camp, Martial Arts, Adventure Exercise, Dance, Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi, The Five Tibetans, Supplements, Food for Exercise, Natural Injury Management, and Motivation.

From Editor Terry Robson

“Detox” is not just about eating fibre or even regular spiritual practice; it is about choice. It involves you choosing what will enter your life.

The word “detoxification” and the popular associated notions of cleansing have made people realise that the way we are living is not sustainable. Many now desire to cleanse their lives and in response to this quest for instant detox, a plethora of diets, supplements and gurus have sprung up. Not all of these are bad, although some are. In this publication, we have gone beyond this to examine what I think of as “true” detox.

As always in WellBeing publications, we have taken a body, mind and soul approach. We look at the diets, herbs, foods, potions and pills that promise detoxification of your body and consult experts as to what really works. We also delve into ways to detoxify your home, your workplace, your emotions, your relationships and your spirit.

Overall, detox is an ongoing process. Yes, we talk about the heroic detox events such as going on a fast and how to do it, but we also look at the things you can do every day to keep yourself free of toxins on all levels.

The 21 chapters inside include:

Detox Diets

Digestive Detox

Skin, Liver and Lung Detox

Supplements, Herbs and Foods for Detox

Juice Diets

Home, Life and Relationship Detox

Nervous System Detox

Fasting

Ten Steps to Holistic Detox

Overview:

Each Year Wellbeing Magazine presents Wellbeing Astrology, a special book dedicated to what’s to come in the year ahead. Astrology is a tool many wise people in history have turned to for guidance and insight, especially in times of change and transition. Within these pages you will find an exploration of what astrology is, as well as discussion around how the planets cycles in 2012 affect humanity.

From Editor Kelly Surtees:

“2012 is one of those much anticipated years. Amongst possible endings to the Mayan calendar and revolutionary links between Uranus and Pluto, 2012 brings many energetic shifts. In the face of what promises to be a potentially life-changing year, I can’t help but think of the saying ‘when everything changes, change everything’. When the fabric of what’s been certain starts to shift, the uncertainty that emerges brings opportunities to embrace change and follow your bliss, if your dare. We have designed this edition of Wellbeing Astrology to help you focus on what’s most important- you.”
